On the scarcely populated world of Ord Cestus, cave spiders stood out as a major species. These spiders, true to their name, made their homes within the natural cave systems scattered across the planet's surface. It's highly probable that they share a lineage with the Spider People from the historical records of X'Ting.
Their physical characteristics mirrored those of other arachnid-like creatures found throughout the galaxy. Cave spiders varied considerably in size, ranging from smaller than a human fist to as large as an average adult human. They possessed the ability to project both poisonous venom and adhesive webbing at their adversaries. The presence of discarded webbing served as an indicator of the location of their cave dwellings.
Despite being considered non-sentient, their intelligence was remarkably high. They engaged in coordinated hunting strategies as packs, demonstrating the capacity to adapt their tactics mid-attack. This suggests the existence of at least a basic form of communication. Furthermore, they exhibited an awareness of when intruders no longer posed a threat. Cave spiders displayed fierce territoriality, constantly defending their caves against the X'Ting, the planet's dominant sentient species, who also inhabited cave tunnels.
During a mission to Ord Cestus, a contingent of clone troopers, under the leadership of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Kit Fisto, encountered a colony of these cave spiders. Following casualties and injuries on both sides, the Jedi chose to withdraw, allowing the remaining spiders to survive. As they retreated, one spider performed a gesture that could be interpreted as a respectful bow, though this might have simply been an instance of anthropomorphism on the part of the Jedi. In a later incident, a group of spiders launched an assault on a JK-13 organodroid. When the larger spiders proved ineffective, smaller spiders initiated a swarming tactic to confuse the droid. While their actions were primarily defensive, aimed at protecting their territory, they inadvertently played a role in saving the life of ARC Trooper [Jangotat].
