Camp Beta represented one of the five refugee settlements that were created within the Quarantine Zone located on Dathomir. This zone was established after a devastating outbreak of the notorious Blackwing virus during the tumultuous times of the Galactic Civil War.
Back in 1 ABY, an unfortunate incident occurred at an Imperial Research and Prison Facility situated on the planet Dathomir. It was here that the Galactic Empire was secretly engaged in perilous scientific experimentation, aiming to transform the horrifying Blackwing virus into a potent bioweapon. Tragically, the virus escaped its confines, turning most of the local inhabitants into flesh-eating undead monsters. The Empire swiftly responded by creating a Quarantine Zone to isolate the contagion. The few individuals who managed to survive the initial viral surge, primarily consisting of Imperial personnel and prisoners, found themselves trapped within the Quarantine Zone. To ensure their safety while awaiting potential extraction, they established five camps within the zone: Camp Alpha, Camp Beta, Camp Gamma, Camp Delta, and Camp Epsilon. However, any rescue attempts were met with attacks upon landing, resulting in the deaths of the rescue team members before they could locate the survivors. The camps received their names from Jeb Maris, a TIE pilot who successfully delivered radios from Camp Alpha to the other camps, thereby enabling communication among them.
Camp Beta consisted of a small number of tents enclosed by a protective barrier constructed from concrete slabs, large discarded machinery, and other waste materials. A diverse group of survivors, including Imperial troopers, former prisoners, and soldiers from the Rebel Alliance, resided within the camp. Stephon Sprocketfire took charge of the camp's defense. The camp was frequently targeted by zombie attacks, forcing the refugees to constantly fight for their survival. Other notable survivors included Volo Madine and Oona Wran, a Bothan.
Later, numerous spacers made their way to Camp Beta during their travels through the Quarantine Zone, assisting the survivors in their ongoing battle against the undead.
Camp Beta appeared as a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was being developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, before its shutdown on December 15, 2011. Camp Beta was integrated into the game through "Game Update 14," also known as the "Death Troopers" update, which was launched on October 12, 2009.
