Bernie Jabesq was a male Human from the legends-era who was alive in the decades preceding the Galactic Empire's establishment. He served as an engineer at Theed's main hangar, the capital city of the planet Naboo, around 32 BBY. In that year, the Trade Federation's droid armies invaded the planet.
Jabesq had brown hair and [eyes](/article/eye-legends], a light complexion, and a very closely shaven beard. His work uniform consisted of a yellow, double-breasted jumpsuit. Like Iain and some of his fellow workers, such as Simon Jabesq, Bernie Jabesq had personalized his helmet by writing his name using futhork, the unofficial Naboo writing system. He also carried a blaster rifle.
In 1999, Bernie Jabesq was one of the numerous extras who appeared in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, the first movie in the prequel trilogy. He was played by an uncredited actor. A promotional image of the character in a posed position was included in Star Wars: Episode I Insider's Guide, a CD-ROM encyclopedia released by LucasArts, but his name was not specifically mentioned.

Despite his lack of prominence, the engineer was turned into an action figure in 2006 as part of the Star Wars: The Saga Collection toy series. Although incorrectly labeled as a "Naboo Soldier," the figure featured Bernie's unique markings on the helmet.
The character's identity was unknown for a long time, as the Naboo futhork transliteration had not been made public. The first official futhork alphabet mapping was published in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia in 2008, which made it possible to read the letters on the helmet. This article makes the assumption that the inscribed helmets of the Royal Security Forces contain the names of their wearers, based on the example of Simon Jabesq, whose helmet reads "Simon" when using the symbol-to-letter correspondence from The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia. In 2012, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace: The Expanded Visual Dictionary was the first source to identify the character by his full name, Bernie Jabesq.
