Battle of Parmel

The clash known as the Battle of Parmel transpired during the Zaarin insurrection within the confines of the Parmel system. This engagement marked the second armed conflict between Demetrius Zaarin's renegade forces and the Galactic Empire, his previous commanding authority. Zaarin's military units attempted to waylay a contingent of pilots, which included Darth Vader and Maarek Stele, aiming to prevent their arrival at Coruscant and thwart Zaarin's planned coup.

Lead-up to the Battle

Upon uncovering Zaarin's act of betrayal, Darth Vader hastened toward Coruscant with the intention of stopping Zaarin's coup attempt. He had personally selected five exceptional pilots, among them Colonel Maarek Stele, to aid him in piloting six prototype TIE/D Defenders. Stele received the designation Delta 1, while Vader piloted Delta 6. The TIE Defenders represented the swiftest fighters available for reaching the Parmel system. Their objective was to meet with the Nebulon-B2 frigate named Osprey and utilize it for the most expeditious journey to Coruscant.

Course of the Battle

However, upon their emergence from hyperspace, they encountered Alpha-class Xg-1 Star Wings and an Immobilizer 418 cruiser, identified as the Harpago. The Defenders, with their superior capabilities, handily repelled the assault from the Star Wings, as they awaited the arrival of the Nebulon-B2 frigate Osprey.

Subsequent to the Osprey's arrival, the Harpago dispatched multiple waves of TIE/sa Bombers. Vader and Delta squadron once more efficiently countered these attacks. Following the handling of the bombers, Delta turned its attention to the Harpago. The intense barrage of torpedoes overwhelmed the cruiser, resulting in its destruction.

After the Battle

With Zaarin's forces neutralized, Delta group boarded the Osprey and set course for Coruscant to foil Zaarin's plans.

Behind the Curtains

This battle initially appeared in the 1994 LucasArts video game Star Wars: TIE Fighter, where players assume the role of Maarek Stele. The mission "TIE Defenders," which is the fourth mission in the game's seventh tour of the campaign, "Treachery at Ottega," portrays this particular battle.
