Battle of Hsskhor

The clash known as the Battle of Hsskhor unfolded during the New Sith Wars, pitting the Brotherhood of Darkness against the forces of the Galactic Republic. Back in 1003 BBY, the Brotherhood, with aspirations of establishing a presence in the Mid Rim, successfully seized control of the planet Kashyyyk. Republic soldiers who survived the attack sought refuge on the neighboring world, Trandosha. The Brotherhood dispatched twenty units of troopers in relentless pursuit, eventually cornering the Republic forces just outside the city of Hsskhor. A full day of intense combat yielded no clear victor, leading both sides to withdraw to opposite ends of the battlefield as the sun dipped below the horizon, only to then face an unexpected assault from the native Trandoshans. These Trandoshans, unallied with either faction, launched an attack on both sides, inflicting significant casualties. However, with the arrival of reinforcements, the Sith managed to overcome the Republic, resulting in the complete destruction of the city of Hsskhor.

Prelude

For a millennium, the Sith and the Galactic Republic engaged in a protracted conflict known as the New Sith Wars. Around 1010 BBY, a former Jedi Master, Lord Skere Kaan, reorganized the Sith forces into the Brotherhood of Darkness, boasting a formidable strength of over twenty thousand Sith Lords. This revitalized Brotherhood of Darkness initiated a renewed campaign against the Republic, achieving numerous victories. In 1003 BBY, the Brotherhood of Darkness turned its attention towards the heavily forested Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk, aiming to secure a strategic foothold within the Mid Rim.

This led to the Battle of Kashyyyk, a prolonged and brutal engagement that ultimately resulted in a Sith victory. Following this battle, the surviving Republic soldiers retreated to the neighboring planet of Trandosha, prompting the Sith to dispatch twenty units of Sith troopers with the mission to eliminate them.

The battle

The Sith troopers eventually caught up with the Republic forces in the open fields surrounding the city of Hsskhor, triggering a major confrontation between the two sides. A day filled with fierce combat resulted in numerous dead on both sides, yet neither faction could claim a decisive victory. As darkness descended, both armies retreated to opposite ends of the battlefield to reorganize their ranks. However, just a few hours later, the indigenous Trandoshans launched a surprise attack. The Trandoshans, who were not aligned with either side in the New Sith Wars, unleashed a wave of destruction upon both the Sith and Republic forces alike. Caught completely off guard, the Sith and Republic soldiers suffered heavy losses, with nearly half of the Sith troops killed by the time the sun rose. The Brotherhood received timely assistance in the form of reinforcements dispatched from Kashyyyk, which allowed them to overwhelm both the Republic forces and the Trandoshans. Many of the Trandoshans, choosing to defend their homes, abandoned the fight and even offered their services to the Sith. Ultimately, the Republic forces were decimated in less than a week.

Aftermath

In the wake of the Battle of Hsskhor, the once-proud city was looted and reduced to rubble. However, Hsskhor was eventually rebuilt sometime during the subsequent millennium. Several troopers who participated in the battle, including the Sith soldier Adanar, suffered lasting trauma from the experience.
