Bakur Memorial Building

The Bakur Memorial Building, alternatively referred to as the Bakur Complex, functioned as the primary governmental hub on the world of Bakura. This structure, characterized by its wedge-like, truncated shape, was positioned slightly southwest of the heart of Salis D'aar, the planet's capital. It faced Statuary Park, situated at the center of the city. Originally, it served as the headquarters for the Bakur Mining Corporation, before being repurposed as the meeting place for the Bakuran Senate.

Description

Senate Chamber

Following the Battle of Bakura, the Bakuran Senate Complex was established as a fortified location in Salis D'aar, Bakura, to house the Bakuran Senate. This move aimed to provide the Senate with a more secure environment than the Bakur Memorial Building could offer. The complex was also designed to accommodate a portion of the city's population during emergencies, and it included heavily guarded caches of armor and weaponry for self-defense purposes.

Corporate Wing

About a century before the Invasion of Bakura, the "corporate wing" of the Building was finalized, potentially in response to the droid revolt of 97 BBY. It is possible that the Corporation had a different base of operations before this point, or that this was the time when the government was formed, or that this was the year the Corporation transferred authority to the Senate.

First Floor

A lobby and reception area occupied the Bakur complex's first floor. This lobby was spacious and airy, decorated with refined statues and flatsculps created by local artists. A security detail was stationed at every entrance and exit, a remnant of the civil war era and the internal conflicts among the Bakuran leadership.

Residential Wing

The second and third floors of the Residential wing provided housing for guests and residents. Located on the far side of the Bakur complex, guests had to take the tram to get to the Imperial Offices and Senate wings. These apartments, reserved for senators and prominent dignitaries, were lavishly decorated with water panels, paintings, and plants. A large, airy lobby contained the drop and lift shafts and led to the wing's numerous corridors. The corridors were built from the white stone commonly used in Bakuran architecture. Rooms and suites opened onto both the corridors and the main lobby.

The rooms were personalized to meet the specific requirements and preferences of their occupants. Guest quarters for non-residents typically featured pale-yellow namana wood panelling and large windows overlooking the Greenwell. A hexagonal lounge "pit" area, furnished with small repulsor cushions, was the focal point of each apartment's main room. Each apartment also included a three-D screen, a comm module, and a computer terminal. Furthermore, each room was adorned with a unique muralscape—a computer-animated landscape scene of remarkable realism. While these murals generally depicted locations on Bakura, they could be reprogrammed to display virtually any view.

Imperial Offices Wing

The Imperial Offices wing, situated on the upper levels of the Bakur complex, housed the offices of Governor Nereus' staff, as well as the operations center for COMPNOR. (A sophisticated surveillance system was reportedly in place, but COMPNOR agents sabotaged it before the Imperial surrender.) This wing also contained a medical bay (frequently used by Nereus for conducting interrogations), a tram station, the Great Hall, and the Bakuran Senate Chamber.

Governor Nereus' office was situated on the ground level of the Imperial Offices wing. Following the Imperial surrender, Pter Thanas occupied it. The office served as the complex's HoloNet reception point, with the transceiver positioned on a small pad near Nereus' large desk. Large windows offered views of the Greenwell, but Nereus typically kept them shuttered. The office walls were decorated with dental specimens that Nereus had collected from various species. A conference table with a retractable holoprojector was also present in the office.

The Great Hall

The Great Hall served as a connector between the tram station arch and the Senate Chamber. This corridor was a traditional gathering place for politicians, business leaders, and civic leaders, and many of Bakura's most important laws were formulated during meetings held there. Smaller side corridors led to drop and lift shafts that provided access to other levels. The Senate wing connected to the Great Hall via another side corridor, making the Senate Chamber a short walk away. The large corridor was carpeted in thick black. A row of columns, crafted from expensive red marble and inlaid with gold, lined the corridor. The walls were also made of red marble, and the gold traceries extended upward to criss-cross on the high, vaulted ceiling.

One wall featured a bank of storage lockers for senators and guests to store their belongings. The lockers were equipped with hand print locks for security. At least two stormtroopers guarded the entrance to the Senate Chamber at all times, with up to a dozen troopers assigned there if disruption of the Senate's proceedings was deemed likely. Repulsor-equipped weapons scanners ensured the security of everyone inside the Chamber. Both the tram station and Senate Chamber entrances were guarded by a pair of door wardens dressed in the violet doublets worn by the Bakuran Honor Guard. A thick wooden door sealed off the entrance to the Senate Chamber.

The Greenwall

The Greenwell extended vertically through every level of the complex, from ground level to the roof. From an aerial perspective, it resembled a "slice" cut through the building's center. This large arboretum was lined with tall fern trees and "passion-bud" vines native to Bakura. A large central fountain was situated in a grassy clearing. Water erupted from over 100 sonic motivators in gravity-defying spirals and eddies, creating a decorative spray in the air. Paths through the Greenwell were marked with a deep green moss that was highly resistant to damage, providing an excellent natural walkway. A few small avian species were housed in The Greenwell, enhancing the chamber's natural beauty with their songs.

The Greenwell's main entrance connected to Statuary Park, but every level of the complex could access it via repulsorlift drop and lift shafts that gently lowered visitors to the ground. A smaller, secondary greenwell was located towards the northern end of the building. While not as large or elaborate as the Greenwell, this second arboretum offered more privacy and was a popular spot for Bakur complex workers seeking a quiet place during lunch breaks.

Rooftop

The rooftop was covered in massive vine-trees. A repulsor tram followed a rectangular route around the building, transporting workers and senators between the complex's wings. The rooftop landing port could accommodate ships and airspeeders up to 100 meters in length. A small parking area provided storage for speeders belonging to visitors and senators, and a lift descended to a small airspeeder hangar housing Bakuran government speeders.

A large garden was also located on the roof, although it was not as well-maintained as the Greenwell. The Imperial government prioritized maintaining a functioning landing pad over the survival of the trees and small creatures housed on the roof.
