Avogwi represented a sentient avian species of predators, originating from Altor 14, which also served as the native world of the Nuiwit. Their bodies, save for their powerful, scaled legs, were enveloped in orange plumage, offering camouflage against the orange-hued skies of Altor. Fully grown Avogwi boasted wingspans ranging from four to five meters. Each wing terminated in a joint featuring three fingers, functioning as hands when the creature was not airborne. The Avogwi considered the Nuiwit as nothing more than another, albeit more palatable, prey animal. They responded with hostility to any suggestion of a shared evolutionary ancestry between the two species.
The Avogwi's society was quite rudimentary due to their exclusively carnivorous diet and their awkward manipulation skills. It was primarily based on hunting activities and the acquisition of water. Avogwi exhibited limited social behavior, typically living in pairs that claimed territories spanning approximately fifty square kilometers for their exclusive use. They also possessed minimal technological advancement and harbored distrust towards the technology of other species. Nevertheless, they had cultivated a sophisticated philosophical system rooted in the teachings of the legendary hero Toro-toral, who was believed to be the first Avogwi capable of flight. The core principles of this philosophy asserted that survival necessitates killing and that those who refuse to kill will perish, thereby sustaining the lives of others. The pronouncements of Toro-toral were recited by the Avogwi during their infrequent large gatherings, which consisted of ceremonial duels to the death to determine the Avogwi leader, known as the Avog.
The Avogwi had little to offer in trade to the wider galaxy, apart from the mineral rights to the lands surrounding their nests. However, they declined to relinquish these rights, as they struggled to comprehend why offworlders would exchange anything of value for possessions of the Avogwi, unless it was intended to weaken them. Given the Nuiwit's willingness to engage in trade, and the ongoing expansion of their cities and farms, which encroached upon Avogwi hunting grounds, the Avogwi did not thrive when the Rego Mineral Company made contact with Altor 14 in 15 BBY. Some Avogwi, unable to secure their own nests, ventured offworld, where they found employment as bounty hunters, assassins, or in similar professions involving violence.
One Avogwi held the position of port boss at Mud Station on Shador. Another notable Avogwi was Nevid d'Hon, an outfitter operating on Ord Mantell.
