In the year 1 ABY, the Rebel forces launched a coordinated assault on the Brak sector's communications network, effectively eliminating both Imperial and civilian communications within the sector. A number of relay stations and transmitters were targeted by heavily armed freighters, but the majority were sabotaged, causing them to self-destruct. Despite this, the majority of stations reported minimal loss of life. Although the communications blackout was extensive, backup systems were rapidly activated. Densely populated zones experienced only minor disruptions, but long-range communications suffered outages lasting several hours, and certain remote regions remained cut off for almost a full day.
