Arno D'Vox served as a commander within the ranks of the Imperial Military. During the era of the Galactic Civil War, he held the position of commanding officer at Bannistar Station.
Approximately nine months following the Battle of Yavin, the heavily damaged vessel known as Rebel One materialized near Bannistar Station, attempting to conceal itself amidst the civilian ships awaiting refueling. Despite the utilization of forged registration codes, the security chief, Rishyk, conducted an additional verification process and subsequently informed D'Vox that the vessel was, in reality, a flagship belonging to the Rebel Alliance. D'Vox initiated communication with the ship, issuing a warning regarding an impending boarding and instructing them to vacate the refueling queue. He then issued orders for a Nebulon-B escort frigate and a trio of TIE/LN starfighters to approach the vessel. Upon observing the ship's apparent attempt to escape, D'Vox commanded his TIE fighter pilots to disable its engines. Unbeknownst to him, this action aligned with the rebels' scheme, as their planned destruction would facilitate the infiltration and subsequent destruction of Bannistar Station by a small contingent of rebels. Commander D'Vox, however, discerned the rebels' true intentions and instructed his forces to delay their engagement, opting to observe the extent of the rebels' infiltration capabilities.
As the rebels commenced the placement of detonators, the stormtroopers advanced and confronted them, adhering to D'Vox's directive that all individuals, with the exception of Skywalker and Senator Organa, were considered expendable. Six rebels, including Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, were apprehended and subsequently transported to the command center situated within Bannistar Station. D'Vox recognized the Emperor's profound desire for the capture of these two rebel leaders, perceiving this situation as an opportunity to secure a transfer from Bannistar Station and assume command of a Star Destroyer. Consequently, he refrained from immediately reporting their capture. Instead, he instructed Rishyk to locate the one rebel who had evaded capture, Deena Shan.
Following this directive, he informed the Emperor about the captured rebels and received instructions to dispatch them to the Emperor aboard the Star Destroyer Certainty upon its completion of refueling. D'Vox then boasted about this development to Leia Organa, also informing her that Rishyk had located Deena and that her demise was probable. However, he remained unaware that Deena Shan had successfully evaded Rishyk's capture shortly thereafter and had made her way to a walkway involved in refueling a Star Destroyer. Thus, when she succeeded in disabling a portion of the station and the ship by detonating a fuel tank, he was caught off guard and failed to notice Abel's attempted escape.

Amidst the escalating explosions engulfing Bannistar Station, Abel managed to subdue the stormtroopers guarding the control room and seize Commander D'Vox. Choosing death over allowing the rebels to escape, D'Vox seized a rifle from one of the fallen stormtroopers. However, before he could discharge the weapon, Luke Skywalker utilized his lightsaber to disarm him, resulting in the loss of both his hands and a portion of his forearms. As the rebels made their escape from the station, D'Vox commanded the fleet to obliterate the rebels' commandeered shuttle. Despite these efforts, the rebels successfully escaped with the assistance of Dagger Squadron, and D'Vox vowed to pursue Luke and inflict suffering upon him.
D'Vox possessed the qualities of an astute and self-assured man of middle age. He demonstrated the ability to discern that the destruction of the Rebel One was merely a diversion intended to facilitate the infiltration of Bannistar Station by rebels. He maintained confidence in his troops' capacity to overpower the rebels before they could successfully destroy the station. Furthermore, he held little regard for unreasonable demands emanating from Imperial Center and was not hesitant to express this sentiment.
D'Vox harbored dissatisfaction with his position as commander of Bannistar Station, aspiring instead to command a Star Destroyer. He hoped to achieve this ambition by capturing Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa and delivering them to the Emperor.
Moreover, he did not adhere strictly to Imperial discipline. He would frequently appear before his troops with his uniform in disarray, and he permitted his head of security, Rishyk, to maintain his hair at an unkempt length.
Following the amputation of a portion of his arms by Luke Skywalker, D'Vox's singular objective became the pursuit and infliction of suffering upon Luke Skywalker.
