The Arcane Library functioned as both a library and a repository for artifacts. This location was situated inside the Sith Citadel, which itself was a Sith temple utilized by the Sith Eternal. The citadel was found on the planet of Exegol. Within the library's walls were preserved records pertaining to numerous Sith Lords and users of the dark side, including personal accounts and transcribed words from the Sith Lord known as Darth Sidious. Following the Battle of Exegol that occurred in 35 ABY, the Resistance launched the Exegol Excavation Project, during which they excavated the aforementioned temple. The information discovered in this library was later referenced by the historian Beaumont Kin in his published book titled The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire.

Located within the Sith Citadel on the planet Exegol, the Arcane Library functioned as both a library and a vault for storing artifacts. It was positioned three levels above the ground, immediately beneath a gladiatorial arena. The library's design included gray-colored floors and walls, along with a central atrium showcasing a minimum of four statues, one of which was a sizable octahedron. The spaces on either side of the atrium were divided into two levels: one adjacent to an exterior wall and the other against an interior wall, each with doors.
The balcony levels on both sides, as well as the lower level on the interior side, featured two elongated brown furnishings along their lengths. Conversely, the exterior side's lower level contained at least three independent shelving units. A sequence of uniform arches on both levels separated the library's side sections from the central atrium. This ancient citadel, serving as a Sith temple, operated as the headquarters for the Sith Eternal and stood as one of the most venerable strongholds of the Sith. The library housed information concerning a variety of Sith Lords, such as Darth Plagueis, Darth Maul, Darth Tyranus, and Darth Vader.

The details pertaining to Plagueis included scrolls and writings that documented his obsession with achieving immortality. These records were dictated by his Sith apprentice, Darth Sidious, shortly before Sidious's death in 35 ABY, although some of the material had been damaged. The library also held documents referencing the Force artifact known as the Fermata Cage, as well as Sidious's recollections about the dark side Force users belonging to the Inquisitorius, where he noted their eventual obsolescence.

Following the defeat of the Sith Eternal during the Battle of Exegol in 35 ABY, the Resistance initiated the Exegol Excavation Project, an excavation of the temple that was spearheaded by historian Beaumont Kin. This project resulted in the recovery of information from the library, leading to the creation of comprehensive documentation detailing their discoveries. This documentation included files concerning Vader, Maul, Tyranus, and Plagueis, which were categorized under a "Sith Lords" section. Additionally, a file on the Inquisitorius was stored in the "Warriors of the Dark Side" section, while the Fermata Cage file was placed under "Force Artifacts."
The details gleaned from the library aided Kin in further developing a hierarchy of the Sith Lords, a subject that had been central to his research prior to the project. Despite the hierarchy remaining incomplete, the newly discovered material revealed the existence of Plagueis for the first time, along with Tyranus's apprenticeship under Sidious. Kin subsequently cited the files compiled from the library's contents on numerous occasions in his book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, which was also released in 35 ABY.
The Arcane Library received mention in the 2024 reference publication titled Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, authored by Dr. Chris Kempshall. Subsequently, it was visually depicted for the first time in the 2025 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations, New Edition. The new content featured in this book was penned by Jason Fry and Emily Shkoukani.
