A young Human female named Amni Ponnar resided with her parents on their homestead located on Tatooine around the time of 0 BBY. In that year, her very existence was threatened when her father's scheme to instigate a conflict between the local Jawas and Tusken Raiders over food backfired. Jedi Master Ben Kenobi, accompanied by his new young trainee Luke Skywalker, intervened and saved her. Upon returning home, Kenobi revealed her father's deceit, and she observed that the locals had followed them. Nevertheless, Kenobi successfully de-escalated the situation and departed, leaving Amni and her mother to confront her father regarding his actions.
In the later years of the Imperial Era, Amni Ponnar entered the world, born to Human parents. By the time 0 BBY arrived, she was living with her father and mother at their family homestead, which was nestled in the Jundland Wastes. Despite her father's dismissive view of him as a "crazy old man," Ponnar was acquainted with Ben Kenobi, who was secretly a Jedi Master living in hiding beyond the Dune Sea. She also knew Luke Skywalker, a nineteen-year-old residing at his uncle's home on the Great Chott salt flat.
During 0 BBY, Amni's father harbored a desire to enlarge his farm at the expense of the local Jawas and Tusken Raiders. Without informing his wife and daughter, he secretly harvested all the hubba gourds growing on a cliff while they were still developing. As these hubba gourds served as the primary food source for both species, Amni's father anticipated that the two groups would engage in conflict over the missing fruits. He hoped that the Jawa and Tusken Raider clans would eliminate each other, allowing him to expand his farming operations beyond his current property boundaries.

However, some of the locals noticed Ponnar's landspeeder as he was taking the hubba gourds. When Amni was dispatched to Anchorhead to acquire supplies, she inadvertently found herself caught in the middle of a skirmish between Jawas and Tusken Raiders on her journey back, and the combatants recognized the Ponnar family's speeder. Fortunately, Kenobi arrived in time to rescue the girl, as he was en route to Mos Eisley with Luke Skywalker, who had recently become his apprentice. The two men ensured Amni's safe return to her homestead, where the farmer Ponnar greeted them with a rather unenthusiastic welcome.
Suspecting that Ponnar might be involved in the natives' aggressive behavior, Kenobi feigned needing to clean the sand from his clothing, allowing him to discreetly investigate the house. Kenobi uncovered the concealed stash of stolen hubba gourds behind a sliding wall and exposed the deception in front of the homestead's inhabitants. The young Amni was deeply dismayed to learn about her father's manipulative actions. When Ponnar threatened Kenobi with a blaster, Luke Skywalker swiftly responded by brandishing his father's lightsaber at the weapon, severing its barrel before the farmer could fire. Shortly after, Amni realized that the warring Jawas and Tusken Raiders had trailed them back home and were poised to assault the premises. Given the farm's occupants were clearly outnumbered, Kenobi diffused the tense situation by re-distributing the pilfered hubba gourds. Once the natives had departed, Amni and her mother bid farewell to their heroes, while her father was overcome with the shame of his underhanded scheme.

At the time of 0 BBY, Amni Ponnar was a youthful female characterized by her fair complexion and green eyes. Her face was adorned with freckles, and she had brown hair, which she styled into twin bunches. Despite her relatively young age, Amni's parents considered her responsible enough to navigate the Jundland Wastes independently, and she possessed the skill to pilot the family landspeeder on her own. Although she had endured an attack by the Jawas and Tusken Raiders, Amni was nonetheless taken aback by the notion that her father would incite them to engage in armed conflict. In the wake of Kenobi's departure, she regarded her father with disdain, a form of punishment that the Jedi deemed sufficient.
Amni Ponnar made her debut appearance in War on the Jundland Wastes, a comic penned by Mike W. Barr and brought to life through the illustrations of Bob Molesworth. This work was released in 2014 as part of Star Wars Comic 7.1.
