An ammonia chamber was a sealed room, accessible via an airlocked system, designed to be filled with ammonia gas. The medical frigate known as the Redemption featured an ammonia chamber as part of the critical care facilities within its sick bay. This specialized room was equipped with a bed and also included an intercom device, affixed to the external surface of the chamber's glass enclosure.
Following the Battle of Hoth, the Rebel Alliance consented to provide medical care to Zuckuss, a Gand pursuing the profession of bounty hunter, for wounds he suffered previously during the Galactic Civil War. This agreement was made in return for his assistance; he had rescued over 90 injured Rebel soldiers from the crashed GR-75 medium transport, named Bright Hope, and transported them to the planet called Darlyn Boda. When the Mist Hunter landed at the Rebel rendezvous point, Zuckuss was promptly transported to the sick bay and confined to an ammonia chamber. Within this sealed environment, medical droids diligently worked to regenerate Zuckuss's oxygen-damaged tissue, which successfully restored his lungs to full functionality within a matter of days post-surgery.
