The algark stalk represented a type of carnivorous fungus species originating from the world of Gamorr.
These algark colonies developed on tall stalks, and at the apex of these stalks was a wind-sensitive, sail-like bulb. This bulb's purpose was to release spores when disturbed by wind or a nearby animal. These spores could then establish themselves in soil or within an animal's body, leading to the development of a new colony. If spores grew on an animal, the fungus would ultimately devour the host, but only after the new colony had been carried a significant distance from the original.
