The animated short film and a part of the web television series Star Wars: Visions is called "Akakiri" (in Japanese: 赤霧), which translates to "red haze". Science SARU produced this short, which was first shown on Disney+ on September 22, 2021.
The episode starts by showing a damaged B-wing starfighter falling towards the surface of a planet. Across the terrain, various horse-like animals with masked riders are seen traveling. Tsubaki, a Jedi Knight, confronts the riders near the crashed starship, using his blue lightsaber to defeat several of them. Overwhelmed by a painful vision, Tsubaki is defeated by the masked riders. However, they are forced to retreat by a barrage of arrows.

Before losing consciousness, Tsubaki observes three figures standing on a high plateau. He later awakens and questions Kamahachi, one of his rescuers, who assures him of their assistance. Princess Misa, a woman and one of the three who saved him, speaks to Tsubaki. Misa's companion expresses surprise at her familiarity with Tsubaki. Tsubaki explains that he arrived after hearing about the events involving Misa's father. He is shocked to learn that a Sith was concealed within the royal family and questions the princess about her carrying a bow, assuming she doesn't intend to fight.
Misa inquires about Tsubaki's reason for coming. Tsubaki responds that Masago is a Sith Lord and that it is impossible to defeat her alone. He requests to join Misa. The next day, Tsubaki accompanies Misa and her two male guides, Kamahachi and Senshu, riding on horse-like creatures. Misa informs her guides that Tsubaki is a Jedi who assisted them five years prior when they were attacked by Orochi. Kamahachi, who is balding, expresses surprise that a Jedi traveled to their planet alone and voices his skepticism.
Tsubaki questions the necessity of her guides' presence, implying that Kamahachi is incapable of fighting. Kamachi retorts by asking if the Jedi judges people based on their appearance. He and Senshuu joke about not being able to fend off wild tooka cats before laughing. When Tsubaki asks why they need guides to the palace, Misa explains that the situation has changed and that there are checkpoints everywhere. Misa explains that she is an exile and cannot get close to the palace. Kamahachi knows all the back roads in and out of the palace through the canyon while Senshuu has connections; making them both essential to this journey. Kamahachi warns the enemy is searching for them.
As their journey continues, Kamahachi and Senshuu begin to sing. Tsubaki asks them to be quiet, but the two guides explain that they are singing a protective song against evil spirits. They travel for several days, crossing deserts, rivers, rain, and forests, eventually reaching a village. Kamahachi warns that they are surrounded and have no escape. Tsubaki discovers a path through the mountains. Kamahachi and Senshuu advise against using the mountain route, as they believe it is sacred to the gods and that no one who has traveled there has ever returned.
Tsubaki insists that they have no other option. To motivate them, Misa offers to pay them 300 credits. Kamahachi counters with a proposal of 500 credits, which she accepts. As they ascend the mountain path, they are drenched in rain. After the rainstorm, Misa notices that Kamahachi is missing and wants to go back to find him. Senshuu advises against it, believing it is his destiny to die and that this is divine punishment. Tsubaki disagrees with the concept of predestination and sets off to find Kamahachi.
Later, a celebration is underway in a village. Masago's soldiers are terrorizing the local villagers. Misa and Senshuu seek shelter in a hut. Eventually, a cheerful Kamahachi returns with Tsubaki. Misa pays them the promised 500 credits, and the two men leave. Tsubaki is then afflicted by a painful vision but insists that he is fine.
The following day, Kamahachi and Senshuu divert the guards outside Masago's palace by sending burning bales of hay down a mountain. The guards chase after Kamahachi and Senshuu, who flee on their horse-like steeds. Misa uses a crossbow to shoot down a guard. She and Tsubaki enter the palace.
In a flashback, Misa is chatting with a younger Tsubaki who tells her that her father is making a fuss that his princess has disappeared. Misa says he is just overreacting. Tsubaki says that he would like to but he is working. Misa asks if this is Jedi work. Tsubaki then asks her why she is out here on the balcony looking down on the city. Misa says that she is just thinking about bringing stability and peace to this world, and what it would take to do it.
Returning to the present, Tsubaki reflects on what he could and could not do. Misa inquires about his conclusion, but they are interrupted by Masago and his guards. Masago questions Tsubaki if she thought she could avenge her father by bringing a Jedi. Misa shoots arrows at her but Masago deflects them with her lightsaber. Tsubaki tells Masago that she is the King's sister and asks how could she betray him. Masago responds that it was the right time and that she was waiting for the perfect opportunity. Tsubaki gives Masago the option of leaving the planet and never returning.
Masago refuses Tsubaki's offer and attacks him. The two engage in a lightsaber duel, parrying each other's blows. Masago comments that Tsubaki has talent but lacks technique. Her guards bring in the bruised Kamahachi and Senshuu, who have been captured. Tsubaki lowers his blade as he experiences a convulsion. Masago asserts that Tsubaki was destined to die and that everything is predetermined. Other guards restrain and capture Misa.
As Tsubaki struggles to regain his strength, Masago mocks his slim chances of saving his friends. Tsubaki rises to his feet but has difficulty walking. Masago derides the limitations of the Jedi's power, claiming that the dark side of the Force can unlock his true potential. Masago asserts that it is Tsubaki's destiny to join her as he grapples with the vision.
In a flashback, Tsubaki informs his white-haired Jedi Master that he must return. The master asks if Tsubaki was experiencing another nightmare and asks what he saw. He explains that he saw the vision of someone being killed repeatedly. The Jedi Master thinks that someone else should go in Tsubaki's stead. If he goes, he will be tempted and that will cloud his judgment. The master warns that he won't be able to save him since it is destiny.
Rejecting the idea of a predetermined defeat, Tsubaki retaliates, striking down several of Masago's guards. However, he inadvertently also kills Misa, who had been forced to wear a guard's mask. Masago tells Tsubaki that without power he is nothing but offers him the opportunity to rule at her right hand. Masago claims that they can rule together, bringing order to the galaxy, protect their planet, and his precious Misa as well. Tsubaki points out that Misa is dead.
Masago offers to help Tsubaki save Misa together. Considering her offer, Tsubaki submits to Masago and asks his new Master to help him save her. She extends a hand and together they heal Misa. As Tsubaki rises, Misa asks what he has done. Tsubaki replies that he did what had to be done. Masago invites her new apprentice to follow her into a building. Before entering, Tsubaki raises his hood. Misa watches in shock and despair as Tsubaki and Masago depart in a Star Destroyer amidst chanting.
