The mission to Asturias centered around a squad of clone commandos and their efforts to rescue director Lorca Oviedo. Their ships were downed by Separatist vulture droids, prompting the rescue attempt. This occurred both in the orbit of and on the surface of the Outer Rim planet called Asturias.
Director Lorca Oviedo was returning from a conference located on the planet Aviles Prime. His Consular-class space cruiser and its escorts experienced a life support malfunction and were forced to exit hyperspace. While the ships were vulnerable and undergoing repairs, a concealed droid control ship emerged and launched squadrons of Vulture Droids against the Republic vessels. The unprepared convoy was quickly overwhelmed, resulting in Oviedo's ship and the only surviving lander crashing onto the planet's surface.
After assessing the casualties from the initial crash, the clone commando team exited their damaged lander. They utilized a tracking device to locate the crash site of Oviedo's ship. Upon entering the Consular-class cruiser, the commandos discovered that the life support systems were fully functional, indicating that the ship's exit from hyperspace was unnecessary. As they ventured further into the ship, they found that all passengers, with the exception of Oviedo, had been executed with a single shot to the head. Two of the commandos observed tracks from battle droids leading away from the ship.
While following the tracks, the commandos overheard Oviedo in a conversation with Wat Tambor, who was appearing as a hologram. During their discussion, Oviedo revealed his scheme to return to the Republic and be hailed as a hero, while simultaneously providing Tambor with intelligence on troop deployments. After hearing enough, the commandos emerged from their hiding place and used blaster fire and incendiary devices to eliminate the majority of the droids, taking Oviedo back into their custody.
Following a brief discussion, the commandos decided to return to the director's ship, which was damaged but still operational. However, they were attacked by vulture droids, resulting in severe injuries to the sergeant, Zag. Shortly after, they finally arrived at the waiting Consular cruiser, only to be ambushed by droidekas. The destroyer droids launched an attack that resulted in the deaths of two commandos, leaving only the pilot, the captain, and the sergeant alive. As the remaining survivors and Oviedo were boarding the ship, they encountered two battle droids that had previously boarded the ship. The resulting conflict led to Oviedo's death and the pilot sustaining injuries. Zag pulled both the pilot and Oviedo's corpse onto the ship, enabling their escape from the planet and return to Coruscant.
Upon their arrival on Coruscant, the pilot succumbed to his injuries. Zag reported the events to Mace Windu and Yoda, effectively thwarting Tambor's plan. Windu assured the sergeant that the sacrifices of his men and the captain would be remembered.
