AA-9 Freighter-Liner

The AA-9 Freighter-Liner, alternatively known as the AA-9 Coruscant freighter, represented a significant achievement for Botajef Shipyards, a starship manufacturer, propelling them into the galactic spotlight. Initially designed as a freighter, its role expanded to include refugee transport. During the Clone Wars, it was repurposed as a troopship for the forces of the Grand Army of the Republic.

Characteristics

This freighter, also called the AA-9 Coruscant freighter, was built by Botajef Shipyards and could travel at speeds up to 420 kilometers per hour. It measured 390 meters long and could accommodate 30,000 passengers. Onboard, it held enough emergency supplies to last over three months. It featured a Class 4 hyperdrive, three powerful engines, boarding access on both the starboard and port sides, multi-level living quarters, multiple dining areas, and a variety of service droids.

History

The transport's starboard profile

Originally constructed for cargo hauling, AA-9 Freighter-Liners were used as transports during the Separatist Crisis. In 22 BBY, the Jendirian Valley, an AA-9 Freighter-Liner, played a crucial role in the return of Senator Padmé Amidala to her homeworld of Naboo, accompanied by her Jedi protector Anakin Skywalker, following a failed assassination attempt against her.

During the Clone Wars, the Refugee Relief Movement employed AA-9s as support vessels, moving refugees from planets under the control of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Grand Army of the Galactic Republic also utilized AA-9 Freighter-Liners during the conflict for transporting both supplies and clone troopers. Their presence on Coruscant made them ideally suited for these kinds of operations. The widespread use of this model during the war significantly elevated Botajef Shipyards' reputation in the galactic shipbuilding sector, enabling the company to expand into the military starship market.

Behind the scenes

The AA-9 Freighter-Liner made its debut in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. It was later officially identified as the AA-9 Coruscant freighter within the Databank section of StarWars.com.
